We are proud to have served the Livermore Valley on February 8th, 2013, by providing over $2000 in free dental services to local children. Give Kids a Smile is an event hosted by volunteer dentists nationwide in conjunction with the American Dental Association. This event is an annual centerpiece to National Children’s Dental Health Month. It is designed to provide education, screening, treatment and preventative care to children of low-income families who do not have access to care. The event also raises awareness of the epidemic of untreated dental disease occurring here and across the country.
According to the Center for Disease Control, nearly 1 in 4 children, aged 2 to 11 years old, have untreated cavities in their baby teeth. While poor diet and oral hygiene certainly play a role, cavities are actually caused by a disease called caries, which is five times more common than asthma.
On Friday, February 8th, 2013 we will be hosting a Give Kids a Smile event at our office. This event is open to all kids without dental insurance between the ages of 3 to 14 years old. During this event, the child will be screened by a dentist, may have his/her teeth cleaned, may have fluoride applied to the teeth, and/or may have sealants placed. If there are any dental emergencies, we will try to treat the emergency on the day of the event or may refer to a clinic that can treat the emergency.
Due to the need for signed parental permission and other documentation, during the event we can only see children who are registered in advance.
